On Saturday 1st July 2006, in a beautiful old theatre in Perth, Scotland, the Lord Howard de Walden Perpetual Trophy was awarded to Holywood Players as overall winners of the British One Act Drama Finals. Holywood, competing against teams representing the very best in Amateur Drama from England, Scotland and Wales, presented ‘The Invisible Man’ by local playwright and author Jennifer Johnston.
The play featured actors Jim Wolstencroft and Wilson Caughers and was directed by Carole Stewart and their success marks the triumphant end of a long journey through local competitions and then the Northern Ireland Finals, held in Larne in January.
Holywood Players are naturally delighted with their win. It is a remarkable achievement as they are a small group, without a permanent home of their own. They are determined however to continue to stage plays of a high standard, equal to the best the UK has to offer.
