Holywood Shared Town is delighted to have Culture Night in our town.
At the beginning of this project, the idea was to create a Cultural Calendar for the town by adding to the few already well-established events such as May Day, the Fireworks at Halloween and the switching on of the Christmas Lights. Culture Night is the first of these additional events.
The idea of contributing to a “Buy Local” campaign had evolved as a result of several meetings with the retailers and businesses. They would definitely be the best people to come up with ways to preserve our town, improve our economy , and generally work together towards a focused goal.
So far we have seen a lot of “working together” and general “good feeling” around town and more networking than ever before!
I was delighted at one of the Hub meetings to hear one retailer say to another “Well I knew that you worked across the road, but until Culture Night we had never spoken to each other. Now we are talking every day!”
Mind you, the best of all was when one retailer told me that, as a direct result of being involved with Culture Night he had served Holywood people in his shop who had never been in before. His takings were also well up on the week before!
