If you look around Bangor you will see a tremendous growth in this particular crime ever since a particular person came back to this country and decided to make his mark on Bangor.
I understand that he has been caught and will be dealt with severely but his dirty work is now being copied by others who think that it is cool to destroy other people’s property.
It has been proven time and time again that graffiti is the beginning of a slow deterioration of an area which can then lead to broken windows, vandalism, litter and crime. The New York experience has taught many country’s a valuable lesson.
Should I be returned to Council I will propose that the Council set up a quick reaction team to move speedily to remove graffiti as quickly as it goes up. We also need to get the co-operation of the other agencies and business in the Town centre to do the same. I see no reason why the Council cannot offer a service to private residents at a special rate to help them get rid of their own graffiti problem.
There may also be some small grants available for people to get rid of these eyesores quickly before even more problems arise from this vandalism.
This needs to be tackled now before the problem gets out of hand.
Our town is under attack by a group of mindless yobs whose idea of fun is to spray their un-artistic ramblings on anyone’s property.
